About

Caspar the Town FoolI’m Caspar, the Town Fool.

On this site, I’ll be posting some of what I’ve learned along the way, mostly about websites and computers, but occasionally about other science and tech developments. Feel free to ask questions, and respond with your thoughts. You don’t have to be a geek to participate. Most of my friends are non-geeks. And besides, ever since the Big Bang Theory, geek is cool.

I started townfool.net a few years back as a hobby, a kind of on-line sandbox to play around with. Over the years, friends have asked me to help them get their churches, small non-profits and personal sites up and running on the web, and to trouble-shoot their many Windows woes. Town Fool became a bigger and bigger sandbox, and in 2003, an “official” moonlighting business.

In summer 2011, with early retirement from my day job, I came into more time to get reacquainted with old interests. The requests for computer and web help from friends (and now friends of friends) continue to come in, and so I continue to help where I can.

I was a geek before geek was cool. I started tinkering with computers when I was in grade school. By the time I finished Jr. High, I’d learned to program and modify the hardware inside those black boxes. I installed my first network before I was out of high school. I did some programming for college physics professors. I’ve always been a dabbler, a self-taught, trial-by-error developer.

So when the guy next door, or your uncle Harry, who “knows a lot about computers” leaves you with a worse problem than you had before he came over, give me a shout. I’m here to help.

Cheers,

Caspar, the Town Fool
